Microphyt, Scale project‘s coordinator and leader in microalgae-based natural ingredients, has taken a major step toward sustainability with the installation of a 282.9 kW rooftop solar power system at its facility in Southern France. This initiative is part of the company’s broader commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and ensuring 100% renewable energy consumption.
Harnessing Solar Energy for a Greener Future
The new photovoltaic system consists of 690 high-performance solar panels, expected to generate approximately 354 MWh of clean energy annually. With a 100% self-consumption rate, the solar plant will cover a significant portion of the site’s energy needs. This investment aligns with Microphyt’s long-term vision of eco-friendly production and responsible infrastructure development.
Commitment to 100% Renewable Energy
Microphyt has also committed to sourcing its electricity entirely from renewable sources, aiming to achieve 100% renewable energy consumption by the end of 2024. According to Hervé Jacqz, Chief Manufacturing Officer of Microphyt, « Switching to renewable energy is not just a choice; it’s a responsibility. With this investment, we are taking concrete steps to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future for all ».
Expanding Green Initiatives
Looking ahead, Microphyt plans to further expand its sustainability efforts by installing additional solar panels over parking areas and upcoming new buildings. These initiatives solidify the company’s role as a pioneer in sustainable biotech and natural ingredient production.
